What Rockstar has said

Official material describes a story across the state of Leonida and calls GTA VI the series’ biggest, most immersive evolution. That marketing language describes the overall game experience; it does not provide a physical map-area measurement.

Why exact size is still unknown

  • There is no official scale bar or coordinate system.
  • Camera perspective distorts distances in trailer footage.
  • Playable boundaries, water area and inaccessible scenery are unknown.

How community map estimates work

Community researchers compare recurring landmarks, road perspectives, bridge spans, building proportions and real-world inspiration. The method can improve a working map over time, but it cannot produce a verified total area without an official scale or the released game.

What would count as map size?

A useful comparison must say what it measures. Possible measures include:

  • Total world boundary, including surrounding water
  • Playable land area
  • Navigable water
  • Road-network length
  • Typical travel time under consistent conditions

These measurements answer different questions and should not be presented as if they were interchangeable.

Common misleading claims

“Twice the size of GTA V.” Not officially confirmed.

“A community map is 95% accurate.” No official validation exists.

“The northern border is final.” Rockstar has not published it.

“Biggest evolution means biggest landmass.” Those statements are not equivalent.

What can be compared today?
