Confirmed differences and estimates
GTA 6 Map vs GTA 5 Map
GTA V’s world can be measured from the released game. GTA VI’s complete map has not been published, so the useful comparison is currently about setting and revealed environments—not an invented size percentage.
Quick comparison
GTA V and GTA VI at a glance
Known settings can be compared now. A trustworthy percentage size difference cannot.
| Feature | GTA V | GTA VI |
|---|---|---|
| Primary setting | Los Santos and Blaine County | Vice City and the state of Leonida |
| Visible real-world inspiration | Southern California | Florida, especially Miami and the Florida Keys |
| Complete map available | Yes | No |
| Exact area measurable | Yes, from the released game | Not yet |
| Revealed environments | City, coast, desert, countryside and mountains | City, islands, wetlands, Gulf-side town, industrial interior and national park |

Compare the assumptions
Lock the assumption for a side-by-side view or unlock it to see how easily an estimated GTA VI reconstruction changes the result.
This visualizer tests assumptions; it does not calculate square miles. The illustrated GTA VI geography and scale remain editorial estimates until a complete official map exists.
Setting and geography
GTA V centers on Los Santos and Blaine County, combining a dense city with a broad surrounding county. GTA VI returns to Vice City within Leonida, a fictional state whose official media currently spans six named destinations.
Urban comparison
Official Vice City imagery shows coastal high-rises, busy streets, waterways and nightlife. These scenes support a visual comparison with Los Santos, but not the claim that one city has a larger playable footprint.
Environmental variety
Rockstar has presented tropical islands, marshes, a lower-density Gulf-side town, industrial and rural inland scenery, and forested mountain terrain. This establishes variety beyond the city without revealing how much space each environment occupies.
Map size comparison
An accurate percentage is not possible until Rockstar publishes a scaled map or the released game can be measured consistently. Read the full GTA 6 map-size guide for the current limits.
Why published GTA V size figures differ
GTA V is released and can be measured, but community totals still depend on the chosen boundary and method. Some calculations include surrounding water, some measure land only, some use the rectangular in-game map boundary, and others exclude inaccessible terrain.
The Leonida Survey therefore does not select one community GTA V area figure as a universal baseline. A future GTA VI comparison will publish the boundary, units and inclusion rules alongside every result.
What will be measured after release?
- Land area and total playable range
- Road length and typical driving times
- Urban footprint
- Terrain and water proportions
- Consistent overlays using the same scale rules
